National Institute of Standards and Technology Awards IDESG Funding for Second Year

Funding enables continued progress toward advancing a more secure cyberspace, future of trusted digital identity

WASHINGTON, DC (October 13, 2015) - The Identity Ecosystem Steering Group (IDESG) - an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to creating the future of trusted digital identities - announced today that the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has awarded the organization funding for the second year in a row. This funding enables IDESG to continue developing the Identity Ecosystem Framework (IDEF), a framework aligned with the high standards established by the Guiding Principles of the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace (NSTIC).

"This second year of funding enables IDESG to build on our momentum in creating the IDEF and growing our organization," said Marc-Anthony Signorino, Executive Director, IDESG. "We're now at a critical point in the life of the IDEF and the IDESG. We are seeking input from companies, organizations and academia to contribute their insights and experience, as we strengthen in number and ideas to shape the future of the Identity Ecosystem."

The IDEF is a privacy-enhancing set of policies, practices and methodologies defining highly-trusted digital online identity credentials benefiting consumers across multiple industries and in numerous applications. The baseline requirements for the IDEF Version 1 was completed earlier this summer and the vote for adoption is scheduled for a Virtual Plenary meeting to be held on October 15, 2015.

About the Identity Ecosystem Steering Group (IDESG)

The IDESG is a voluntary, public-private partnership dedicated to developing an Identity Ecosystem Framework (IDEF) and services to better online digital identity. The IDESG looks to advance the identity ecosystem called for in the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace (NSTIC). The NSTIC, signed by President Obama in 2011, envisions the Identity Ecosystem as an online environment where individuals and organizations will be able to trust each other because they follow agreed-upon standards and policies to obtain and authenticate their digital identities. Come see how IDESG is making this happen by joining us in the effort and taking advantage of our services at https://www.idesg.org.
